Sverige  |  Udskriv  |  Mail denne side My name is André Andersson and I was born in the north of Sweden a cold December day 1980. Since my childhood I have always shown great interest in building things, and I soon developed a good feeling for design and proportions. Later, in the early teenage I discovered a passion for drawing things. For many years I developed my technique and I started to dream of a career as an illustrator. At the same time I also discovered the enormous world of computer graphic and started to experiment both with 2D and 3D graphic. Slowly I realized that the chances getting a good work as a web designer was bigger then as an illustrator, so I decided to put my old dreams to the side. I started too look at internet related educations but my faith seamed different. After finishing an electronic education I started to work for a big company producing DNA-science instruments. It was during my four years at this company I discovered the art of custom knife making. My first knife I had already made sex years earlier in school, but now I saw all the things a good custom knife maker can make. It all started by a coincident when I went to a three day course with the Swedish blade smith Roger Bergh. One of the guys who were going to participated hade gone sick so they had an opening, and after a lot of thinking I went there together with my father. It was three days that changed my life. I was 19 years old and had found a new meaning with my life. Soon after, we started to build a workshop and before we knew it we were buying all old forging equipment we could find. In the beginning I did not have any belt grinder so I was unable to make ready blades, but it did not stop me from forging them. During the course I talked to Roger and he was interested in me making a homepage for him. I made the page, and the next summer he came up from the south holding a small private course in Damascus forging in our new made smithy. I hade experimented a lot with pattern welded steel, but with no basic knowledge of the nature of welding it was hard and I destroyed more then I created. But with the guidelines of Roger the forging took a new turn and I suddenly started to succeed making all kinds of patterns for my blades. Now Roger has moved here and is a great friend and a source of inspiration. Inspired by a lot of the worlds greatest art knife maker I started to experiment with my own handles. There have been a lot of failure and wasted materials, but now I feel I have brought forth a style of my own. I see custom knife making as a form of art making and therefore my main focus on the knife market is Art knives, but from time to time I also make more ordinary using knife. I love using ancient materials, combining all kinds of colours. I forge my own steel and I really enjoy making new mosaic patterns.
